School Teams. Sites and Miscellaneous Stuff

Meadowbrook, George Wythe, John Marshall and Huguenot will not have Boys teams this year.

Nottoway High School will play their matches in the Middle School gym next door.

CVVOA lost the contracts for Kenston Forest and New Bridge Academy but picked up Amelia County and Surry High Schools this year.

If traveling to the Bay Rivers schools east of Williamsburg, please allow extra time to get thru the construction area on I-64.

If working at St. Catherine's, please remember that there is very, very little parking near the school with all the construction going on there. Allow for extra time to park and get to the gym on time.

Pink Whistles

October is designated as Breast Cancer Awareness Month by the VHSL. Whenever possible, and especially on PINK-OUT matches, please use your pink whistle and lanyard during the month.

VHSL Volleyball Registration

In order to officiate any sport in the 2018-19 school year, everyone must register and pay the appropriate fee to the VHSL via the the new Whistle website. The link is on the CVVOA home page. The deadline for all officials to  register, submit their exam, and view the online clinic is August 20th. The first sport you register for will cost $45. All additional sports are $30.

VHSL Rules Clinic and NFHS Online Exam

The VHSL will hold their annual volleyball rules clinic ONLINE this year. The first date (tentative) to take the clinic is Monday July 25th. That is also the first date to take the NFHS Rules Exam. The last day to complete both requirements WITHOUT PENALTY is Monday, August 20th. Not completing these two tasks by the deadline will result in fines of $50 for each part not completed on time.

VHSL State Event Passes

State Event Passes must be requested through the local association. If you would like to have one, please contact commissioner Bruce Frye no later than Friday, August 3rd.  Passes are $25.00 each and are only good for STATE level playoff games in any sport. The $25 will be deducted from your paycheck.

Position of R3

The CVVOA Executive Committee has adopted a plan by which first and second-year members can get more assignments and at the same time receive immediate feedback from an association rater. In selected JV matches, the rater will be assigned the R3 position on the schedule. His/her duties are to sit in the stands and observe the JV match, focusing primarily on the R2 (1st/2nd-year) and reporting comments about his/her performance. Between the JV and Varsity match, the R3 will review some of the situations observed and provide feedback to the R2. It is the JV R2's responsibility to watch at least two sets of the varsity match to obtain an insight as to how matches should be called. More about this will be explained at the general membership meeting on July 16th.
